Chobe Day Trip from Victoria Falls: What's Included and What to Expect

The Chobe / Botswana day trip is Mutsviri Game Lodge's signature excursion — a full-day border crossing from Victoria Falls into Chobe National Park, combining a game drive and a boat safari on the Chobe River. This guide explains exactly what's included, how long it takes, what wildlife to expect honestly, and how the day trip fits into your stay.

The short answer

The Chobe / Botswana day trip from Victoria Falls is a full-day guided excursion into Chobe National Park in Botswana, combining a game drive and a boat safari on the Chobe River, typically running around 10 to 12 hours door to door. It includes return transfers, border-crossing support, a game drive, a boat safari, lunch and park entry fees; visa formalities and visa costs are handled separately by each traveller. At Mutsviri Game Lodge, the day trip is included in every 3-Night Signature Stay, in every season.

THE FULL DAY, STEP BY STEP

What a Chobe day trip from Victoria Falls actually looks like

The day trip is straightforward once you know the shape of it. Here is what actually happens, stage by stage — and what to expect from wildlife, borders and logistics along the way.
EARLY MORNING

Departure & border crossing

You're collected from Mutsviri Game Lodge before sunrise and transferred to the Kazungula border, where the local team supports the crossing formalities into Botswana.
SIGNATURE HIGHLIGHT

Chobe game drive

MID-MORNING
A guided game drive inside Chobe National Park, known for some of Africa's largest elephant herds along the Chobe River floodplain.
MIDDAY

Boat safari & lunch

A boat safari on the Chobe River for close, low-angle wildlife sightings, followed by lunch before the return crossing.
LATE AFTERNOON

Return to the lodge

Return transfer back across the border to Mutsviri Game Lodge, typically arriving in the late afternoon or early evening.
Chobe National Park is well known for elephant, buffalo, lion and leopard — four of the Big Five. Rhino is not part of the Chobe day trip; rhino tracking is a separate experience, arranged on the Zambia side in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. We would rather tell you this clearly than let you assume otherwise on the day.
Many travellers cross into Botswana using the KAZA UniVisa, which covers Zimbabwe, Zambia and cross-border day trips into Botswana. Visa requirements and costs vary by nationality and can change, so current requirements are confirmed by the local team ahead of your trip rather than stated here as fixed rules.
The Chobe / Botswana day trip is included in every 3-Night Signature Stay at Mutsviri Game Lodge, in every season. For shorter stays, it can currently be quoted separately at US$190 per person where timing allows. Three nights is the stay we recommend for exactly this reason — it is the length that comfortably includes Victoria Falls, a sunrise game drive and this day trip without rushing between them.
