Getting to Victoria Falls: Airports, Transfers and Visa, Explained Simply

Which airport should you fly into, how do you get to the lodge, and what do you need for a visa? These are the questions that stall a lot of first-time Africa trips at the planning stage. Here is the honest, practical answer, so you can book with confidence rather than guessing.

The short answer

Fly into Victoria Falls Airport (VFA) on the Zimbabwe side. It is the recommended arrival point for Mutsviri Game Lodge, because it avoids an extra border crossing on your arrival day. Livingstone Airport (LVI) on the Zambia side is also possible if your flight routing requires it — our team will arrange the crossing either way. Private transfers are arranged as part of your confirmed itinerary, so you are not navigating unfamiliar roads or border posts on your own.
VICTORIA FALLS AIRPORT (VFA)

The recommended arrival point

Located on the Zimbabwe side, roughly 20 minutes from Mutsviri Game Lodge by private transfer. Arriving here means no border crossing on your arrival day — you land, clear immigration once, and head straight to the lodge. Served by direct and connecting flights from Johannesburg, Cape Town and other regional hubs.
Best for: most guests staying on the Zimbabwe side. Simplest arrival day.
LIVINGSTONE AIRPORT (LVI)

Also workable, if your flights route this way

Located on the Zambia side. If your international flights connect more conveniently through Livingstone, this is a perfectly workable option — it simply means one additional border crossing to reach the lodge, which our team arranges and guides you through as part of your transfer.
Best for: guests whose flight routing makes Livingstone more convenient, or who are combining the trip with time in Zambia.

FROM TOUCHDOWN TO YOUR CHALET

One team handles it all — you make one decision, we handle the rest

Mutsviri Game Lodge is run by Africa Premier Safaris, a registered tour operator as well as a lodge. That means the same team that welcomes you at the lodge also arranges your transfers and border logistics — no separate operator, no handoff between companies, no gaps where something can go wrong.
01

Arrival

You land at VFA (or Livingstone), clear immigration, and are met by your private driver — no queuing for a shared shuttle, no uncertainty about who is picking you up.
02

A private, air-conditioned vehicle takes you directly to Mutsviri Game Lodge. If you arrived via Livingstone, your driver guides you through the border crossing — you simply follow instructions.
03

Arrival at the lodge

You're welcomed personally, briefed on your itinerary, and can settle in before your first activity — usually the same afternoon.

Visa and the KAZA UniVisa

Most visitors need a visa to enter Zimbabwe, available on arrival for many nationalities. The KAZA UniVisa covers entry to both Zimbabwe and Zambia, plus day trips to Botswana's Chobe National Park, where available and where the traveller is eligible — this is what makes the Chobe day trip straightforward without a separate Botswana visa process. Requirements and fees vary by nationality and do change, so our team confirms your current requirements when we plan your itinerary, rather than us stating a fixed rule here that may be out of date by the time you travel.
